spreading information through social networks

For this week the discussion was about the effect of the internet on politics. One of the articles talked about how could Facebook change politics.

While one could argue that not everyone is obsessed with social networking sites or have the time to spend in them looking through messages, I do think it is a good way for politicians to target the younger generations for whom the internet is an indispensable part of life. Not only do many use it to pass on information through quick clicks of icons that forward to emails or short messages from these social sites, but active and passionate people get their messages through to these people and if these messages are interesting enough those who read it will pass it along to their friends and so on.

Thus, while I don't think politicians should depend on Facebook, Bebo, or any other social networking sites to spread their campaign goals and ideals I do think it is a way to appeal to a good crowd as long as the message is interesting and attention grabbing enough so that many read it and feel the urge to pass it along.

These sites should then be considered a good asset to have, yet probably not an indispensable one since it is not actually appealing to the whole population.

I agree with you. These social networking sites are just a great tool for politicians or passionate people to use. Who believes otherwise? Do they think it is immoral or unethical? I'm not sure I understand the other side. Nevertheless, facebook and bebo are just a means to communicate those views.

Ale,

Like you said Social Netowring is a great way for politicians to target younger generations. This is a growing trend in Ecuador as political parties create groups in facebook to communicate their ideologies and what they have been up to lateley.

This is a great way to engage us and to get to know them because there are so many political parties in my country that it is hard to follow through or even know they exists.

Especially in a world where there is so much going on, young children aren't really spending that much time watching the news or programs dedicated to disseminating information about politics.

Therefore, most people are going to access the internet to get more information. Personally, if I hear something on the news about a political candidate, I also like to go online to find more information just to get different views. These online social networking sites are extremely helpful, especially in the younger age group.
